You represent that you are over the age of 18. The University does not permit those under 18 to use the Service.
Your access to and use of the Service is also conditioned on Your acceptance of and compliance with the Privacy Policy of the University. Our Privacy Policy describes Our policies and procedures on the collection, use and disclosure of Your personal information when You use the Application or the Website and tells You about Your privacy rights and how the law protects You. In order to user our Services, You need to have an ORCID iD. Your ORCID iD is a unique, open digital identifier that distinguishes you from every other researcher with the same or a similar name to you. To register and for more information, visit the ORCID website.
When You create an account with Us, You must provide Us information that is accurate, complete, and current at all times. Failure to do so constitutes a breach of the Terms, which may result in immediate termination of Your account on Our Service.
You are responsible for safeguarding the password that You use to access the Service and for any activities or actions under Your password, whether Your password is with Your ORCID iD or a Third-Party Social Media Service.
You agree not to disclose Your password to any third party. You must notify Us immediately upon becoming aware of any breach of security or unauthorized use of Your account.
You may not use as a user’s mail address or name or ORCID iD the mail address or name or ORCID iD of another person or entity or that is not lawfully available for use, a name or trademark that is subject to any rights of another person or entity other than You without appropriate authorization, or a name or mail address that is otherwise offensive, vulgar or obscene.
Our Service allows You to post Content. You are responsible for the Content that You post to the Service, including its legality, reliability, and appropriateness.
By posting Content to the Service, You grant Us the right and license to use, modify, publicly perform, publicly display, reproduce, and distribute such Content on and through the Service. You retain any and all of Your rights to any Content You submit, post or display on or through the Service and You are responsible for protecting those rights. You agree that this license includes the right for Us to make Your Content available to other users of the Service, who may also use Your Content subject to these Terms.
You represent and warrant that: (i) the Content is Yours (You own it) or You have the right to use it and grant Us the rights and license as provided in these Terms, and (ii) the posting of Your Content on or through the Service does not violate the privacy rights, publicity rights, copyrights, contract rights or any other rights of any person.
The University is not responsible for the content of the Service's users. You expressly understand and agree that You are solely responsible for the Content and for all activity that occurs under your account, whether done so by You or any third person using Your account.
You may not transmit any Content that is unlawful, offensive, upsetting, intended to disgust, threatening, libelous, defamatory, obscene or otherwise objectionable. Examples of such objectionable Content include, but are not limited to, the following:
The University reserves the right, but not the obligation, to, in its sole discretion, determine whether or not any Content is appropriate and complies with this Terms, refuse or remove this Content. The University further reserves the right to make formatting and edits and change the manner any Content. The University can also limit or revoke the use of the Service if You post such objectionable Content. As the University cannot control all content posted by users and/or third parties on the Service, you agree to use the Service at your own risk. You understand that by using the Service You may be exposed to content that You may find offensive, indecent, incorrect or objectionable, and You agree that under no circumstances will the University be liable in any way for any content, including any errors or omissions in any content, or any loss or damage of any kind incurred as a result of your use of any content.
Although regular backups of Content are performed, the University does not guarantee there will be no loss or corruption of data.
Corrupt or invalid backup points may be caused by, without limitation, Content that is corrupted prior to being backed up or that changes during the time a backup is performed.
The University will provide support and attempt to troubleshoot any known or discovered issues that may affect the backups of Content. But You acknowledge that the University has no liability related to the integrity of Content or the failure to successfully restore Content to a usable state.
You agree to maintain a complete and accurate copy of any Content in a location independent of the Service.
You assign all rights, title and interest in any Feedback You provide the University. If for any reason such assignment is ineffective, You agree to grant the University a non-exclusive,perpetual, irrevocable, royalty free, worldwide right and license to use, reproduce, disclose, sub-license, distribute, modify and exploit such Feedback without restriction.
Our Service may contain links to third-party web sites or services that are not owned or controlled by the University.
The University has no control over, and assumes no responsibility for, the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third party web sites or services. You further acknowledge and agree that the University shall not be responsible or liable, directly or indirectly, for any damage or loss caused or alleged to be caused by or in connection with the use of or reliance on any such content, goods or services available on or through any such web sites or services.

We may terminate or suspend Your Account immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason whatsoever, including without limitation if You breach these Terms and Conditions. Upon termination, Your right to use the Service will cease immediately. If You wish to terminate Your Account, You may simply discontinue using the Service.

Processing is necessary for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by the controller or by a third party (meta data, communication data, usage data).
We have adopted comprehensive technical and organizational measures to protect Your personal data against unauthorized access, abuse, loss and other external interference. To this end, We regularly review Our security measures and adapt them so that they are state of the art.
All data processed in connection with the Service are stored on the servers of the University of Freiburg’s data center.
The above-mentioned data will be processed for as long as this is necessary to facilitate the use of the Contact.engineering Service or to fulfill Our obligations or the statutory obligations.
As a rule, account data are stored securely until the deletion of the user's Account and then deleted within 3 months from the time that he/she closes his/her Account. After the deletion of a user’s Account, data that this user has published using Our application will be retained together with the ORCID iD for the purposes of dealing with any legal issues or violations of good scientific practice.
Where data are recorded for the purpose of the delivery of the Website, this is the case when the respective session is ended.
As a rule, the IP address and hardware information of a Device are usually stored in the server’s access and error log for a period of seven days so that any errors may be analyzed.
Internal recipients are those employees who require the data so that they can perform their tasks. Should We be required by law to disclose data, additional recipients will be added.
Where processing is based on Art. 6(1)(e) of the GDPR (performance of data processing carried out in the public interest), You are entitled to object, at any time, to the processing of any personal data relating to Your particular situation.
The laws of the Country, excluding its conflicts of law rules, shall govern this Terms and Your use of the Service. Your use of the Application may also be subject to other local, state, national, or international laws.
If You have any concern or dispute about the Service, You agree to first try to resolve the dispute informally by contacting the University.
If You are a European Union consumer, you will benefit from any mandatory provisions of the law of the country in which you are resident in.
If any provision of these Terms is held to be unenforceable or invalid, such provision will be changed and interpreted to accomplish the objectives of such provision to the greatest extent possible under applicable law and the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
Except as provided herein, the failure to exercise a right or to require performance of an obligation under this Terms shall not affect a party's ability to exercise such right or require such performance at any time thereafter nor shall be the waiver of a breach constitute a waiver of any subsequent breach.
These Terms and Conditions may have been translated if We have made them available to You on Our Service. You agree that the original English text shall prevail in the case of a dispute.
We reserve the right, at Our sole discretion, to modify or replace these Terms at any time. If a revision is material We will make reasonable efforts to provide at least 30 days' notice prior to any new terms taking effect. What constitutes a material change will be determined at Our sole discretion.
By continuing to access or use Our Service after those revisions become effective, You agree to be bound by the revised terms. If You do not agree to the new terms, in whole or in part, please stop using the website and the Service.
